4 of the Best Stanley Lake Activities

Hiking

Stanley Lake Trailhead is home to some of the best hiking in the area. This 7.3-mile out-and-back trail affords visitors stunning views of Lady Face Falls and McGowan Peak as you gradually ascend towards one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the Sawtooths: Bridal Veil Falls. This showcase of cascading water is a sight to behold, and it marks the halfway point of the hike, so it’s an excellent place to stop and soak in the views. Then, head back to Stanley Lake to cool off and take a dip!

Fishing

Casting a line in the water is one of the best ways to enjoy your time at Stanley Lake. The cool, clear waters of the lake are perfect for reeling in a variety of trout species, including rainbow, bull, cutthroat, and brook. You can access most of the north and west shores for fishing, and there is a boat ramp near the campground for those bringing their vessel. There is also a series of streams branching off from the lake that are great spots to fish.

Tip: Remember to get a required Fishing License before heading to Stanley Lake with your rod and reel!

Wildlife Viewing

Whether you’re standing on the shores of Stanley Lake or hiking to Bridal Veil Falls, you’ll find plenty of wildlife in the area. Birdwatching is especially popular here given the 219 bird species in the area, including an array of shorebirds, raptors, songbirds, and waterfowl.

Swimming

While there are plenty of lake activities to enjoy at our sister property, the Redfish Lake Lodge, swimming is a possibility in several bodies of water in the Sawtooths. Several beaches that stretch along the shore where you can wade into the lake. Expect the water to be chilly but manageable in the summer with the warm Idaho sun shining on you.
