1. Soak in the Hot Springs
A vacation should be filled with relaxation! Rejuvenate in the beauty of the wilderness when you visit the Challis Hot Springs. A hot spring is a naturally occurring pool of heated water that has risen from the earth’s crust, and these particular springs are the perfect temperature to soak in. There are 2 thermal pools to choose from: the Large Pool and the Therapy Pool. The Large Pool is regulated to 100-102 degrees Fahrenheit; it provides comfortable swimming. The Therapy Pool is unregulated, so it can be anywhere from 105 to 107 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. Get Spooked at a Ghost Town
There are many ghost towns within driving distance of Redfish Lake Lodge, but one of our favorites is Bay Horse. It was once home to immigrants from diverse regions of Europe as they mined the mountains for silver. Now, you can visit and see the old buildings and some of the ovens that were used to make charcoal for the smelter. However, keep in mind that you cannot go inside these buildings because of the toxins from silver mining.
3. Learn About Frontier Mining
If you’re looking for educational things to do in Challis, Idaho, visit the Land of the Yankee Fork State Park! Here, you can learn all about Idaho’s frontier mining history. At the visitor’s center, you can enjoy exhibits that display the area’s past and see actual mining equipment outside. Kids can even learn how to pan for gold! Deeper in the park, you will find hiking trails and various historical sites that you can learn about at the visitor’s center.
