Why Raft the Middle Fork of the Salmon River?

Calling all adventurers! If you’re looking for the ultimate excursion through some of the most scenic landscapes in the country, you’ll find it right here in our mountainous region of Central Idaho! The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is a 104-mile stretch of the Salmon River that weaves through. There are over 100 raftable rapids in the Middle Fork that mostly range from Class III to Class IV in the level of difficulty. The sheer beauty along the banks of the river is unbelievable, and rafters will see everything from steep rocky cliffs jutting up into the sky to densely packed mountainside forests of pine, spruce, and fir trees.

Most rafting trips stop at one of the six natural hot springs along the river that sit anywhere from 100 feet to a mile and a half away from the river bank. Below is a little insight into who you should take a trip down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River with during your time in Stanley!

Four-Day and Five-Day Rafting Trips

There are only two four and five-day rafting trips down the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, one at the beginning of June and one in July. You’ll experience high water on this rafting adventure where you’ll see blooming foliage, relax in a hot spring, and experience several post-winter waterfalls gushing in the mountains.

Six-Day Trip

Rocky Mountain River Tours offers an extensive list of dates for six-day excursions during peak season on the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. You’ll get to dive into their delicious Dutch-oven cuisine on this week-long adventure where it’s just you, the rushing water, and the starry night sky. They also offer several fish and raft trips in August and September.

Tip: While packing for your trip to Stanley, make sure you bring multiple layers and non-cotton clothing if you’re planning on going whitewater rafting.
